Many search for an escape from the anxieties of life through addiction to a substance, sadly there left digging themselves a deeper grave to lay in. The Forbidden Drug was produced to mimic that emotional darkness, the pain of solidarity, and the battle with a horrible addiction.
Many lyricist in todays day and age stray away from being too preachy but Melodious Monk doesn’t hold back his biblical conviction and known remedy for conquering any drug addiction on this album. The album ranges from twisted stories of murder and jealousy to passionate pleads for forgiveness, battles with faith, the reality of losing what you may love the most, perceptions of God, and a glimpse at what is needed to beat any addiction. Through such intense subject matter you fully get the chance to experience what it feels like to be under the influence of “The Forbidden Drug”.
The Forbidden Drug is entirely produced by Melodious Monk himself with no features and has some of the darkest soundscapes packed with organic sounds, viscous break beats, dusty lo-fi ambience, haunting strings, and horrifying chord compositions.
There are three main focal points of the album, first: how the drug came into existence, second: the side effects of The Forbidden Drug, and third: how to beat the addiction.
